As we reflect on another abundant year of people, programs and purpose, there are so many highlights from 2023 to share.
Broadcast Leadership Training
Broadcast Leadership Training (BLT) is a 10-month executive MBA-style program for senior level broadcasters, particularly women or persons of color, who aspire to advance as group executives or station owners.
Media Sales Academy
Media Sales Academy (MSA) is a six-month program that prepares college students and recent graduates for internships and entry-level sales positions at broadcast stations.
Technology Apprenticeship Program
The need for technology and engineering candidates to join the broadcasting workforce continues to increase, and the NAB Leadership Foundation’s Technology Apprenticeship Program (TAP) is designed to attract and prepare a diverse workforce to fulfill these roles.
The Emerson Coleman Fellowship
Established with the support of Hearst Television to honor the career and legacy of its senior programming executive, the inaugural class of the Emerson Coleman Fellowship Program (ECF) successfully graduated in August 2023.
Celebration of Service to America Awards
The Celebration of Service to America Awards is the NAB Leadership Foundation's largest fundraising initiative, which honors local radio and television stations throughout the country for their commitment to and excellence in community service.
The Future Leaders Fund
The Future Leaders Fund is a general donation campaign that kicked off in 2022 and continues to appeal to the broadcast community to give back to the industry.
- Board member and Emmy-winning host Tamron Hall, broadcast journalist Joie Chen and "The Talk" host Jerry O'Connell have recorded videos talking about their affinity for broadcasting and how they started their careers on local television.
Focus on Leadership Speaker Series
Focus on Leadership is a speaker series for broadcast managers and executives who are interested in career development.
- Held throughout the year in person and virtually, expert speakers and thought leaders cover topics that include leadership, management and organizational development topics that are intended to inform, inspire and enlighten participants.
- The foundation hosted speaker events at the State Leadership Conference in February and NAB Show in April. The series was sponsored by Nielsen.
2023 Career Fair at NAB Show New York
The 2023 Career Fair, hosted by the NAB Leadership Foundation and the New York State Broadcasters Association, saw hundreds of job seekers and conference attendees line up to speak to hiring managers from radio and television stations for open positions and internship opportunities.
- "It was extremely rewarding to see the Career Fair buzzing with excitement from so many applicants interested in pursuing a job in broadcasting," said Michelle Duke, president of the NAB Leadership Foundation. "The recruiters were equally pleased to meet and screen new candidates and expand their hiring pipeline."
