Bas Lansdorp of the Mars One Project to Address NAB Show Technology Luncheon

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Bas Lansdorp, co-founder and CEO of Mars One, will speak at the NAB Show Technology Luncheon, held Wednesday, April 9 in Las Vegas. NAB Show is the annual conference and expo for professionals who create, manage and distribute media and entertainment across all platforms.

Lansdorp is co-founder and CEO of Mars One, the Dutch foundation that is planning to send the first unmanned demonstration mission to Mars in 2018 and land the first humans on Mars in 2025. Mars One recently announced a contract with aerospace titan Lockheed Martin.

At the luncheon, Lansdorp will discuss the history, current status and future plans of Mars One, which just celebrated its third anniversary. He will explain how potential partners, suppliers and the general public have reacted to such an ambitious project and how those reactions have evolved. Over 200,000 applicants are interested in going to Mars and not returning. Why? From where did the idea originate? Lansdorp will discuss the media's current and future role in the success of the Mars One mission.

Lansdorp is an entrepreneur with a passion for ambitious projects. After working on his PhD research in wind energy for five years, he started his first company, Ampyx Power. Ampyx Power developed a novel method of wind energy generation that is cheaper than coal. Lansdorp sold part of his shares in Ampyx Power to finance Mars One. In three short years, Mars One became one of the established names in the world of space exploration.

"Bas Lansdorp is a brilliant innovator who possesses an excellent understanding of how to utilize the media while developing new technology," said Kevin Gage, NAB chief technology officer and head of NAB Labs. "His remarks are sure to be of interest to NAB Show's technology-focused attendees with an eye to the future."

The NAB Show Technology Luncheon will include the presentation of the NAB Engineering Awards to Jeff Littlejohn of Clear Channel Media & Entertainment and Robert Seidel of CBS.
