WASHINGTON -- – Harris Corporation Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Howard Lance will be a keynote speaker at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas. In a morning session titled "Dual Utilization of Broadcast Technology for Industry and Government" on Wednesday, April 14, Lance will discuss how the integration of government and commercial technologies can create "cross-over" applications that benefit both sectors.
In his NAB Show address, Lance will focus on how commercial broadcast technology has increased the performance and reduced the price of military equipment for many intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance applications – including the use of consumer technology by government and defense leaders to help homeland security, warfighting and peacekeeping efforts.
For example, technology initially developed for commercial broadcasters has led to solutions that enable the military to capture, store, retrieve, analyze and disseminate hundreds of thousands of hours of video they receive from unmanned aerial vehicles and ground sensors. This cross-over use dramatically improves the military's ability to provide soldiers with better situational awareness on the networked battlefield. Additional capabilities and applications are also in development.
Lance will further describe how Harris, a global leader in communications and information technology, has leveraged its own large-scale investments in commercial and military sectors to better serve both markets.
Lance was appointed president and chief executive officer and elected to the Board of Directors at Harris in 2003. Before joining Harris, Lance was president of NCR Corporation and chief operating officer of its Retail and Financial Group. Previously, he spent 17 years with Emerson Electric Co., where he held senior management positions.
Lance was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Florida Institute of Technology and the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association.
The NAB Show Military Summit, which debuted in 2009, is produced by NAB in association with Harris. This year's summit will examine the opportunities and challenges for military and government entities presented by evolving digital video and audio applications and compare military/government real-time acquisition and management with similar commercial broadcast ecosystems. It will also cover how to do business with the government in the areas of information assurance and security technology.
