WASHINGTON, DC – NAB President and CEO David K. Rehr sent a letter today to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and the four Commissioners urging the federal agency to allow the public to comment on a 400-page technical report, which was just recently released by the Commission.
The technical report, which shows that spectrum-sensing technology is inadequate and threatens the viability of interference-free television, will reportedly serve as the basis for a November 4 FCC vote on whether to allow 'white space' devices to operate in television spectrum.
Noting the FCC's common practice of permitting comment on any study that forms the basis for final rules, Rehr asserted: "There is no reason to deviate now from this well-established procedure."
"The American public deserves transparency and due process, especially here, where the consequences of adopting rules without full consideration could mean that millions of unlicensed devices with the potential to disrupt television reception could be sold to unsuspecting citizens," Rehr wrote.
