Once again holding off the record labels in an attempt to tax local radio, broadcasters secured a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives to support the Local Radio Freedom Act, signaling legislators' recognition of the vital role stations play in their local communities and their opposition to a performance tax on stations. At the end of the year, 220 members of the House supported the Local Radio Freedom Act a majority large enough to block performance tax legislation. In addition, 25 senators supported the resolution. NAB is grateful to the local stations that helped to garner support for this resolution, ensuring performance tax legislation would not gain traction.
