Washington, D.C.— Authenticity fuels success in content creation. That’s the message actress, writer, host and activist Jameela Jamil will deliver when she takes the Main Stage at the 2024 NAB Show, April 13 – 17 (Exhibits April 14 – 17) at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Creators will be inspired and empowered through sessions, workshops, exhibits and more as NAB Show brings together top personalities, technology and ideas for the broadcast, media and entertainment industry. Jamil will explore the freedom and power of identity and share insights and strategies on how to navigate the pressures of different mediums while staying true to oneself.
"Jameela is an inspiration, using her voice and platform to promote positivity and empowerment," said Chris Brown, executive vice president and managing director, NAB Global Connections and Events. "Her unique perspective and proven success make her uniquely qualified to stir the imagination of our attendees as they chart their own journeys within the world of content creation."
Jamil was first seen on American television starring as Tahani in the Golden Globe-nominated sitcom “The Good Place,” opposite Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. She also hosted all three seasons of the TBS game show “The Misery Index” and served as one of the judges for HBO Max’s hit competition show, “Legendary.” Off-screen, Jamil launched I Weigh – a platform and movement bringing together changemakers to explore social issues from mental health to climate change to the representation of marginalized groups.
Celebrity interviewer, therapist and on-set TV and film consultant Kara Mayer Robinson will moderate the conversation with Jamil. Mayer Robinson hosts “Really Famous,” a talk show that gets to know the real person behind the fame. She’s interviewed dozens of celebrities who often open up about things they never have revealed publicly.
In addition to Jamil’s presentation, the Main Stage promises a star-studded lineup and impactful discussions:
Award-winning talk show host, actor, producer and recording artist, Jennifer Hudson, will receive NAB’s Television Chairman’s Award. The award recognizes individuals for their groundbreaking work in one or more specific art disciplines in television.
Legendary media trailblazer, Donnie Simpson, will be inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame. His distinguished 55-years radio career as an award-winning program director has included many accolades.
Creator and innovator Shira Lazar will host the Main Stage sessions, elevating the experience with her dynamic presence and deep knowledge of the technology and media space. A leading voice around digital culture and emerging trends, Lazar is looking forward to pushing the boundaries together.
Increased access to opportunities in the film industry will be explored when Decentralized Pictures (DCP) and the team behind “Holy Smokes,” the winner of the Decentralized Pictures Kevin Smith Comedy Short Film Screenplay Award, will dive into the challenges aspiring filmmakers face and explore the groundbreaking shift towards audience-driven filmmaking. The panel features Decentralized Pictures (DCP) Co-founder Roman Coppola (“Moonrise Kingdom,” “The French Dispatch,” and “Darjeeling Limited”), and Actor Mena Suvari (“American Beauty,” “American Pie,” HBO’s “Six Feet Under”), followed by a screening of “Holy Smokes.”
Renowned YouTube star, digital creator, filmmaker extraordinaire and multi-media innovator Casey Neistat will challenge creators to “do what you can’t,” to elevate their creative potential and career. He’ll offer actionable lessons for unconventional innovation and creativity.
