WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the League of Women Voters (LWV) today announced the launch of a voter education campaign featuring public service announcements (PSAs) made available through NAB’s 2020 Election Toolkit. The campaign will air from August 3 to Election Day on November 3.
The PSAs encourage citizens to participate in democracy by registering to vote, learning about issues and political candidates, and casting their ballots on or by Election Day. The PSAs direct voters to VOTE411.org, a nonpartisan resource for general and state-specific election information run by the League of Women Voters Education Fund.
The PSAs are available in English and Spanish for TV and radio and can be found here.
“The right to vote and a free press are intrinsically linked pillars of American democracy,” said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. “As ‘first informers,’ local radio and TV stations understand the indispensable role they play in helping citizens exercise their right to vote. We thank LWV for their collaboration and I encourage TV and radio broadcasters to air these PSAs as they strive to create an informed and engaged electorate.”
“For 100 years our organization has worked to empower voters and defend democracy. This year as Americans prepare to cast their ballots in the middle of a pandemic, accessible information is more important than ever,” said Jeanette Senecal, Senior Director of Mission Impact for the League of Women Voters. “We are proud to partner with NAB to reach more voters in this critical election year.”
In February, NAB introduced its 2020 Election Toolkit, a print and online resource to help local broadcast radio and television stations with their news coverage of the 2020 presidential, congressional and local elections.
