Asleep at the Wheel to Perform at NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Grammy Award-winning country music band Asleep at the Wheel will perform at the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show, sponsored by Experi, on Thursday, September 7. The event is part of the 2017 Radio Show, held September 5-8 at the JW Marriott Austin and produced by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB).

Ray Benson founded Asleep at the Wheel in Paw Paw, West Virginia in 1970. Now based in Austin, the band holds 10 Grammy Awards, 20 studio albums and 20 singles on the Billboard country charts. The band is best known for songs like “Route 66,” “Boogie Back to Texas,” “Take Me Back to Tulsa" and “The Letter That Johnny Walker Read.”

“Asleep at the Wheel is one of the most important sounds in country music,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Radio John David. “We’re honored to present a true taste of Austin in the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’ at the Marconi Radio Awards Dinner and Show.”

Currently traveling as an eight-piece band, recent additions Katy Shore, Dennis Ludiker, Connor Forsyth and Josh Hoag have instilled a newfound energy and style into Asleep at the Wheel. The Grammy Award-winning “Still The King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys” is the band’s most recent release and marks their third full-length Bob Wills tribute album, honoring the legendary Western swing artist.

Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, the NAB Marconi Radio Awards recognize stations and individuals for excellence in the industry. A list of this year’s finalists is available here. As previously announced, top-rated syndicated radio personality Rickey Smiley will serve as the event’s emcee.
