KUZZ-FM to Receive Crystal Heritage Award at NAB Show

2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the NAB Crystal Radio Awards

Washington, DC -- KUZZ-FM Bakersfield, CA will be the third station in history to receive the NAB Crystal Heritage Award, recognizing a radio station's long-term commitment to community service. The award will be presented during the NAB Show Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, on Tuesday, April 17 in Las Vegas.

The Crystal Heritage Award honors those stations that have won a total of five Crystal Radio Awards, which recognize radio stations' year-round community service efforts. KUZZ-FM earned its first Crystal Radio Award in 1998.

"It's difficult to underscore the importance of the Crystal Radio Award unless you understand the process it takes to become a finalist," said Sylvia Cariker of KUZZ-FM. "Then being chosen as one of only ten honorees, that's when the eyebrows go up. When I tell people KUZZ has won five Crystals, that's when I hear the whistle that says 'Wow'!"

NAB is celebrating the Crystal Radio Awards 25th anniversary and will honor this year's 10 winners and 50 finalists at the NAB Show Radio Luncheon. A total of 250 Crystal Radio Awards have been awarded to 189 radio stations across the country since the awards were established in 1987. California, home to Heritage Award recipient KUZZ-FM, boasts more Crystal winners than any other state with 23.

Long-time Major League Baseball radio broadcaster Bob Uecker will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame and Donny Osmond will keynote the luncheon.
