WASHINGTON, DC --New station group owner DuJuan McCoy, a current participant in the NAB Education Foundation's Broadcast Leadership Training (BLT) program, recently purchased seven television stations in western Texas. McCoy, who founded Bayou City Broadcasting and serves as the company's president and CEO, will graduate from the NABEF's executive MBA-style program later this year.
A 19-year TV sales veteran, McCoy purchased Fox affiliates KIDY San Angelo and KXVA Abilene; low power stations KIDZ Abilene, KIDU Brownwood, KIDV Albany, and KIDT Stamford; and class A station KIDB Sweetwater. The sale is currently pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
"We are very proud to learn that DuJuan will join the ranks of broadcast television ownership," said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. "His acquisition of these seven properties is another great example of our BLT program delivering on its goal of station ownership that reflects our country's rich diversity. We applaud and share in his initial success."
"NABEF's training program provides aspiring station owners with the necessary tools to strengthen their leadership and management skills," said McCoy. "It's success rate is quite impressive, and I look forward to working with the many colleagues I have met through the program to further the Foundation's mission."
The Broadcast Leadership Training program was created eight years ago to help increase the number of women and people of color in broadcast ownership. The 10-month executive MBA-style program provides senior level broadcast managers with the fundamentals needed to own and operate stations.
Over 125 participants have completed the Broadcast Leadership Training program. Of that number, 16 percent are owners of radio and/or television stations. A great majority of the program graduates have been promoted into senior executive positions at their stations. Others have been recognized for their contributions to the industry with national broadcast awards and in trade publications.
