WASHINGTON, DC – Gerry O'Sullivan, director of strategic product development at BSkyB, will give a keynote address and participate in a panel discussion with entertainment industry leaders on the future of 3DTV and alternative stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) at the 2009 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
On Monday, April 20, O'Sullivan will show exclusive new S-3D footage during his keynote address, and share what he has seen while leading the S-3D efforts at the United Kingdom-based content creator and distributor. BSkyB is building an extensive library of wide-ranging, alternative S-3D content, and has demonstrated the ability to deliver high-quality 3DTV to consumers using its existing HD infrastructure and Sky+HD set-top boxes. With this new content as illustration, O'Sullivan will examine what it will take to make 3DTV a reality, including how to mitigate intra-industry differences and provide audiences with a first-rate viewing experience.
"We have the technology and ability to create a wide range of top quality 3D entertainment for home audiences," said O'Sullivan. "At the NAB Show, I will look at the challenge the 3DTV community is currently facing: what it will take to deliver this content in a robust and timely manner, to bring the future of home entertainment to consumers now."
Following his keynote address, O'Sullivan will immediately join a high-level panel with executives in music, sports and serial programming from across the globe, including Jonathan Dern, President, Cinedigm Content and Entertainment Group, Steve Hellmuth, Executive Vice President, Operations and Technology, NBA Entertainment, Jose Dias, Director of Research & Development, TV Globo Network, Brazil and John Rubey, President, AEG Network LIVE. The Super Session will be moderated by Eric Taub, entertainment technology writer with The New York Times.
Exclusive S-3D content will be screened for the first time during the panel, including TV Globo's "Carnival 2009 - Celebrating in 3D" and sports and arts content in S-3D from BSkyB.
Sponsored by Sony Digital Cinema Systems and RealD, the executive panel will focus on the future of alternative S-3D content, what is resonating with consumers, and what is coming next. Panelists will explore the kinds of content likely to thrive in S-3D, business models, rights and marketing issues, and ways to differentiate the theatrical from the home experience.
This executive panel is expected to be one of the most compelling at the 2009 NAB Show, with exclusive premiere content and top entertainment executives from the world of music, sports and serial programming offering a glimpse into the immediate future of stereoscopic 3D.
