NAB to White House: Oppose Performance Tax

--Following President Bush's Remarks in Nashville, Rehr Urges Opposition--

WASHINGTON, DC -- NAB President and CEO David K. Rehr sent a letter to President George W. Bush outlining NAB's position on the performance tax issue and urging White House opposition.

According to news reports, President Bush was unfamiliar with the issue when asked last week whether he supported "a statutory royalty to the performing artists for radio and television airplay."

Rehr's letter "set the record straight" on the issue, explaining, "The existing system is the epitome of fairness for all parties: free music for free promotion."
