WASHINGTON, D.C. / NEW YORK -- The National Association of Broadcasters announced that the 2012 NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show will be hosted by CBS Radio's KMVK-FM's Edgar "Shoboy" Sotelo. The event will take place September 20 at the 2012 Radio Show at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas.
"Shoboy was an instant hit at the NAB Marconi Radio Awards when he received his award in Chicago last year," said NAB Executive Vice President of Radio John David. "Several broadcasters hinted that he would be a great host in Dallas."
Sotelo was recognized by the NAB in 2011 with the Marconi Radio Award for Spanish Format Personality of the Year. "ShoBoy en la maņana" debuted in May 2010 on CBS Radio's KMVK-FM Dallas/Fort Worth and has since become one of the top-rated morning shows in the market. Sotelo's energetic personality shines on a program that features an innovative mix of music, comedy, entertainment and community empowerment.
Sotelo's radio career began on the promotions team for Los Angeles' biggest radio morning show, "Piolin por la Maņana." Soon after, he became host of a Sunday night program on L.A.'s "Generaciòn 1020 La Soluciòn." In 2007, Sotelo's message of "empowering Latinos to be the solution and not the problem" earned him the position of afternoon drive host at Univision Radio's KVVF-FM San Francisco, where he quickly became a market ratings leader.
Sotelo's extensive community involvement includes radiothons that raised $1.2 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and $600,000 for Children's Medical Center of Dallas. He has been an ambassador for Voto Latino since 2006 and moderated the first Latino Youth Summit hosted by the Senate Democrats. Sotelo was honored with the U.S. Senate's 2009 Most Influential Leader Award, Edison Research's elite 2011 "30 under 30" and a nomination for Radio Ink's 2012 Medallas de Cortez Radio Personality of the Year Award.
Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, the NAB Marconi Radio Awards are given to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio.
