Washington, DC -- Terry Moran, co-anchor for ABC News' "Nightline" - the #1 show in late night - will moderate the session "2012 Election: Party Platforms to Media Platforms" on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:45 a.m. during the 2012 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
During the panel session, distinguished media professionals will share their insights into the 2012 election, including thoughts on whether new media strategies strengthen candidates' political objectives and increase stations' community connections. While media buyers point to political ad spending to demonstrate that broadcasting is the major vehicle for generating awareness of political candidates, campaign officials increasingly credit social media initiatives for much of a campaign's success.
Moran leads "Nightline" in providing distinguished coverage on many major news stories. In the 2008 presidential campaign, Moran traveled across the country reporting on the rise of Sen. Barack Obama. He also interviewed and covered the campaigns of Sen. John McCain, Sen. John Edwards, former Gov. Mitt Romney and former Gov. Mike Huckabee and anchored the coverage of key battleground states such as Iowa and New Hampshire.
Moran's coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan includes a one-hour special featuring an in-depth interview with Gen. David Petraeus and Amb. Ryan Crocker after they testified before Congress; a 2006 interview with Vice President Cheney in Iraq; and a 2008 interview with President Bush in Saudi Arabia. In 2006, Moran traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for a week-long series on the controversial interrogation techniques and was present when the Supreme Court handed down its landmark ruling on the rights of the detainees, Hamdan v. Rumsfeld.
Prior to joining "Nightline" in 2005, Moran covered the administrations of President Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as ABC's chief White House correspondent. As anchor of ABC's "World News Tonight Sunday," he covered the events of September 11, 2001. In 2006, the White House Correspondents Association honored Moran with the Merriman Smith Award for excellence in presidential reporting on deadline. In 2007, he received the George Foster Peabody Award for his work reporting and anchoring the ABC News documentary, "Out of Control: AIDS in Black America."
Television and film star Betty White will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame during a special breakfast preceding the election panel.
