NAB Statement on Today's Court Action Regarding Media Ownership

WASHINGTON --The Third Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Philadelphia today lifted its stay of the Federal Communications Commission's media ownership rules and set the schedule for briefing to begin on May 17. Today's procedural measure puts into effect the FCC's 2008 order calling for the modest relaxation of media ownership rules, including duopoly rules and the cross-ownership of broadcast stations and newspapers in the top 20 markets.

Commenting on today's action, NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton issued the following statement:

"We're pleased that the court has taken an initial step that could lead to modest reform of outdated media ownership rules."
