1. Looking Ahead to a New Administration and Congress
This week, broadcast stations worked overtime to educate their communities on the election. Thank you for your tireless efforts to provide news and information Americans can trust. In the wake of the election results, NAB congratulated President-Elect Trump and the new and returning members of Congress.
🤝 What’s next: NAB will work closely with our broadcast members to ensure new legislators and administration officials understand the power and importance of local radio and television to every community across the nation. We will educate them on what makes broadcasting unique and how we are innovating to better serve our audiences.
Get involved: It is not too early to introduce yourself to new legislators. Visit nab.org/SpeakUp for tools to help you communicate with policymakers, and utilize the spots, message points and resources at WeAreBroadcasters.com/Resources to help lawmakers understand the critical role local broadcasters play in every community.
2. LeGeyt: How Broadcasters Uphold Democracy in a Challenging Election
On Election Day, The Hill newspaper a publication covering Capitol Hill widely read by lawmakers and D.C. opinion leaders, ran an op-ed by NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt that underscores the vital role broadcasters play in delivering reliable information. The piece also emphasizes the importance of protecting press freedoms so that broadcasters can continue to serve as a trusted source for their communities and uphold democracy – an increasingly urgent message as journalists face growing threats to their work.
“In a world overflowing with competing narratives, broadcasters remain committed to delivering what voters need most today: truth and trust, free from interference,” LeGeyt wrote.
Sean Perkins has been named chief marketing officer and senior vice president of Global Connections and Events (GCE), where he will oversee marketing efforts for NAB Show and NAB Show New York.
