1. Louisiana Leaders Advocate for AM for Every Vehicle Act
Ahead of the anniversaries of Hurricanes Katrina and Ida, officials and first responders from across Louisiana sent a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (LA-4) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (LA-1) urging them to bring the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote.
“Despite AM radio’s proven importance in emergencies, a growing number of automakers have started removing them from their vehicles, particularly electric vehicles. These automakers are eliminating access to AM radio, and with it access to critical, often life-saving information, despite receiving billions of dollars in government subsidies,” they wrote.

Thank you to our NAB advocacy team, the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters and others for their hard work in educating these state leaders.
2. David Santrella to Receive National Radio Award
David Santrella, CEO of Salem Media Group and former NAB joint board chair, will be honored with the 2024 National Radio Award on October 9 during the Marconi Radio Awards at NAB Show New York.
NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt: “Dave’s public service ethos, along with a keen business acumen and authentic leadership style have strengthened the entire radio ecosystem, making him a most deserving recipient of this year’s National Radio Award.”
🎫 Be sure to get your Marconi tickets and tables before they’re gone.
3. FTC Ban on Noncompete Agreements Blocked
On August 20, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas issued a ruling blocking the FTC’s rule banning noncompete agreements on the grounds that the FTC lacked authority to enact the rule and that it was arbitrary and capricious. As a result, the court ruled that the noncompete rule is unenforceable nationwide.
What's next? The FTC could appeal the decision to the Fifth Circuit Court of the Appeals. The FTC also can continue to challenge noncompetes on a case-by-case basis through enforcement actions. Broadcasters should consult with their counsel if they have questions regarding their noncompete agreements.
4. Reminder: Make Sure Your Station is Using the Correct Political Broadcasting (PB-19) Forms
The NAB Political Broadcasting Forms (PB-19 Forms) used for candidate ads and issue ads are available to NAB members on our website along with other member resources. They are available for purchase by non-members here.
What's next? We’ve recently learned that some political advertisers and/or stations may have been confused and used an online version of a PB-19 form that had certain pre-filled sections. Stations should be cautious when using or accepting pre-filled PB-19 forms to ensure they relate to the ads being accepted for air. This should include ensuring that candidates use the candidate advertising PB-19 form, and that issue advertisers use the issue advertising PB-19 form.
To help address this problem, NAB is sending alerts and removing public links to any customized and pre-filled versions of forms from prior NAB advocacy campaigns. If you have any questions, please contact the NAB Legal and Regulatory Affairs department at legal@nab.org.
