1. NAB Board Member and CEO Testify on the Value of Local Radio
On Wednesday, NAB radio board member Eddie Harrell Jr. and NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyttestified at the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. He discussed the enduring value of broadcast radio and the importance of the existing copyright framework that governs it, benefiting musicians and the public.
LeGeyt: “Nearly 228 million listeners continue to tune into U.S. radio stations every month because our programming, service and cost remain unique among all entertainment mediums. Our locally focused content informs, educates and alerts listeners to important events impacting their communities. Our resilient architecture ensures that listeners will not lose access to their hometown teams in the bottom of the ninth inning, or – more importantly – to an emergency alert during a crisis.”
NAB radio board member Eddie Harrell Jr., is also the regional vice president, Ohio Markets and general manager, Cleveland Market, Radio One, Inc. Harrell spoke about the deep roots local radio stations have in their communities and how a performance tax would jeopardize the many services these stations provide.
