2. Broadcasters Shine at NAB Show
Leaders across the broadcast industry were honored at this year’s NAB Show for their dedication, innovation and service.
NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame: The Hall of Fame recognizes radio and television personalities or programs that have earned a place in broadcasting history. This year's radio inductee was Donnie Simpson, and the television inductee was “America’s Most Wanted."
NAB Crystal Radio Awards: 10 winners and one Crystal Heritage Award winner, Hubbard’s KSTP-FM, were announced this year. These awards recognize radio stations for their exceptional year-round commitment to community service.
Engineering Achievement Awards:Hubbard Radio’s David Kolesar received the Radio Engineering Achievement Award and consulting engineer Winston Caldwell received the Television Engineering Achievement Award.
Digital Leadership Award: Given this year to Sun Sachs, senior vice president of Digital Products at Townsquare Media, this award honors an individual at a broadcast station, group or network who has had a significant role in transforming a traditional broadcast business to succeed on digital media platforms.
Excellence in Sustainability Awards: These awards recognize outstanding innovations in media technology that promote conservation and reusability of natural resources and foster economic and social development.
Television Chairman's Award: Given this year to award-winning talk show host, actor, producer and recording artist Jennifer Hudson, this award recognizes individuals for groundbreaking work in one or more specific art disciplines in television.
PILOT Innovation Challenge: This award honors compelling solutions to key challenges and opportunities facing broadcasters over the coming two to three years. This year’s winners are Amira Labs, Audioshake and Chord Communities.
3. Date Set for AM Radio Hearing
The House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a legislative hearing on April 30 titled “Draft Legislation to Preserve Americans’ Access to AM Radio.”

Chime in:Urge Congress to pass legislation to keep AM radio in vehicles.
4. American Privacy Rights Act Draft Released
The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation has released a discussion draft of the American Privacy Rights Act.
What is it? This legislation would set clear, national data privacy rights and protections for Americans and eliminate the existing patchwork of state comprehensive data privacy laws.
NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt: “NAB supports the bipartisan efforts of Chairs Maria Cantwell and Cathy McMorris Rodgers to craft a unified national privacy standard. This discussion draft is an important step towards much-needed legal clarity for America’s hometown broadcasters amidst a patchwork of state laws as we engage with our audiences online.”
