Yesterday morning, tens of thousands of Americans woke up to a nationwide cell service outage.
“This collapse is a timely reminder as Congress is poised to pass the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act – legislation that would ensure cars continue to come equipped with AM radio for public safety,” writes Michelle Lehman, executive vice president, Public Affairs and chief of staff, NAB, on the NAB Blog. “It wasn’t too long ago that “some people” suggested AM radio wasn’t all that important because a routine EAS test appeared successful on mobile phones. Multitudes of AT&T customers who were left without service yesterday may disagree. Certainly the 250+ members of Congress supporting the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act don’t buy that nonsense.”

5. NAB on the Move
NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt spoke this week to the North American Broadcasters Association. LeGeyt welcomed their members to NAB for their annual general meeting.
Also at this meeting, NAB Chief Technology Officer Sam Matheny spoke about how the ATSC 3.0 transmission standard can be used to augment position, navigation and timing signals in support of a more secure GPS system.
