Reminder: Analog TV Translators and LPTV Stations Must Go Dark on July 13

All analog low-power TV (LPTV) and TV translator stations must terminate analog television operations by 11:59 p.m. local time on July 13, 2021. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reports that over 1,000 analog LPTV or analog TV translator stations have not yet transitioned to digital or begun the digital transition process by filing for a digital construction permit. These analog operations include a number of facilities licensed to NAB members.

On July 13, 2021, these stations will have to terminate operations altogether and, if they do not have a digital authorization, their license will be canceled.

The FCC Media Bureau's Public Notice contains additional information concerning station's responsibilities with respect to the transition and the filing of digital extension applications and requests for silent authority. The FCC has granted waivers of the July 13 sunset date to allow continued analog operation for about six months. If you wish to continue analog operation for a limited time, you should apply immediately for a waiver.

Stations requiring additional information or that have further questions may contact Mark Colombo for technical questions at Mark.Colombo@fcc.gov or (202) 418-7611 or Shaun Maher for legal questions at Shaun.Maher@fcc.gov or (202) 418-2324, of the Video Division, Media Bureau.
