THE FLY JOCK
Tom Joyner gained the reputation as “the hardest working man in radio” with good reason. His fast-paced and energetic “Tom Joyner Morning Show” brought him high ratings and much acclaim. And the six years he spent commuting as host of the top morning show in Dallas and top afternoon drive show in Chicago earned him the nickname “Fly Jock.”
2000 RADIO INDUCTEE
In the 1990s his show grew from 30 to 100 radio markets with an audience of over 8 million listeners. Though his show had universal appeal, Joyner offered a voice and forum for African Americans nation-wide.
Tom’s success allowed him to give back to the community with the Tom Joyner Foundation, which was established to help students continue their education at historically black colleges and universities, and his propensity for speaking out for African American rights earned him the ear of political and business leaders alike.
