Since its network debut in 1966, “Star Trek” has constantly explored new territory. In 1987, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” became one of the most successful shows in first-run syndication. Both programs have exposed television audiences worldwide to the distant reaches of the physical universe while looking at the wonders of the human imagination and the myriad possibilities for creating a future that overcomes divisions of race, gender, nationality and philosophy.
