Some of my fondest childhood memories are gathering around the TV every Friday night to watch the line up of Dukes of Hazzard, Dallas and Falcon Crest. It was the only night we were allowed to eat on TV trays instead of at the dinner table. We couldn’t wait to see what trouble JR Ewing would stir up from week to week, and the cliffhanger season when he was shot was incredible everyone was asking “Who shot JR?!” for weeks. It’s fun to binge watch streaming shows today, but nothing compares to the days of “appointment television” when everyone was watching the same show at once!
I will never forget being stuck in a car for hours trying to drive out of DC on 9/11, listening to WTOP and trying to make sense of all the chaos around me. It was a terrifying day, and I was grateful that the local radio news team provided a lifeline and updates as they could get them.
My daughters love to call the local radio station – WGTS – and tell “dad jokes” on the air. No matter how lame the joke is, the producer who accepts and records the call always gives a hearty laugh and tells them how funny they are! They get a kick out of hearing themselves on the radio, particularly when friends and classmates also tell them they heard their jokes!

You were just glued to the screen. That song came on the radio. The best NAB Show you ever attended.
Tell us about it!
