I remember when "We Are The World" came out and together with other radio stations in our market (Pittsburgh, PA) we came together to create a chain of people to spread as far as we could. The idea was all the stations across America would create a line of people across the country, everyone playing the song at the exact same time. It had to have been a logistics nightmare, but was a sight to see from where our station (WAMO-FM) stood with all of our jocks and promotions people covering the miles of listeners we had and joining folks from other stations. Never did hear how far it got.
