My first NAB Show was in 1995 as an exhibitor. I was working as digital communications engineer for a company called COMSAT Laboratories, we were showing our new satellite modem for distribution of TV signals utilizing digital technology, pretty groundbreaking stuff at the time. This was my first visit to Las Vegas and my first trade show and I was quite taken in by it all. I remember coming home with an NAB logo t-shirt and a desire to do it again!
A few months later I happened to notice a want ad in the Washington Post for an opening at NAB, a position in the Science & Technology department for a digital communications engineer. I was quite surprised, it turns out I was thinking about finding a new job and to see an opening at NAB, which I had been introduced to and become enamored with only recently, seemed like an incredible coincidence.
Long story short, after a couple of interviews I was hired and for the last 27 1/2 years I have called NAB home. I've now been to 26 NAB shows and looking forward to my 27th! I consider myself fortunate to have landed here and have a chance to be part of radio and TV's digital revolution. I've also learned that broadcasting is not just a profession, it's a passion and it attracts people who are passionate about serving their local communities. Its been an honor to w'rk with those peope for all these years.
