Established in 1959, the NAB Engineering Achievement Award is presented each year to an individual for their outstanding accomplishments in the broadcast industry. In 1991, NAB began giving awards separately for achievements in radio and television. The award winners will be recognized at the Technology Luncheon at 2012 NAB Show on April 18 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Candidates for the Radio and Television Engineering Achievement Awards must be or have been an owner, officer or employee of any company, subsidiary or division whose primary business is broadcasting, or directly supports broadcasting, including employees of the Federal government directly engaged in broadcast engineering work.

The size of the organization with which each candidate is affiliated is not a determining factor. The merits of the contributions to broadcast engineering are the sole factors that will be taken into account.

The candidates for the two Engineering Achievement Awards will be evaluated on the basis of a single significant contribution or multiple contributions made over a period of time that, taken together, have significantly advanced the state of the art of broadcast engineering.

The candidates shall have made contributions in the following categories:

  • Inventions

  • Development of new techniques

  • Dissemination of technical knowledge and literature

  • Leadership in broadcast engineering affairs

  • An outstanding contribution which, in the opinion of the NAB Executive Committee, warrants consideration.
  • The period of time encompassed by the engineering contributions of the candidates for the awards should be reasonable. The NAB Executive Committee will select the award winners. The Committee will emphasize the more recent achievements of the nominees

The nomination form is available on NAB’s Web page. The deadline for nominations is January 23, 2012.

Deadline for Call for Proposals Extended Until

    Conferences April 14 - 19, 2012 Exhibits April 16 - 19, 2012
Deadline for submissions is October 28, 2011

The deadline for session submissions for the 2012 NAB Show has been extended. Don't miss this opportunity.

The 2012 NAB Show will host the 66th NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference. This world-class conference addresses the most recent developments in broadcast technology and focuses on the opportunities and challenges that face broadcast engineering professionals. Each year hundreds of broadcast professionals from around the world attend the conference. They include practicing broadcast engineers and technicians, engineering consultants, contract engineers, broadcast equipment manufacturers, distributors, R&D engineers plus anyone specifically interested in the latest broadcast technologies.

In order to be considered, proposals must explain what attendees can expect to learn from the paper, must not be a sales pitch, and should be no more than 200 words in length.

Papers accepted for presentation at the 2012 NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference will be eligible for the NAB Best Paper Award. Established in 2010, the Best Paper Award honors the author(s) of a paper of exceptional merit published in the NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference Proceedings. The yearly proceedings, published as both a book and a CD-ROM is a compendium of these technical papers, and an important archive of the leading edge of broadcast engineering issues.

Technical paper proposals submitted for the 66th annual Broadcast Engineering Conference will be accepted until the October 21 deadline. If you have any questions, contact John Marino, vice president, education NAB Technology at (202) 429-5346
