Jareen Imam is the director of the award-winning Social Newsgathering team at NBC News. She leads a global team of journalists who find, verify and report on stories using digital forensic tools. Prior to joining NBC News, Imam was the head of Social at CBS News and a social discovery producer for CNN. In 2019, Imam was selected as one of Take the Lead's "50 Women Who Can Change the World in Journalism" fellows and the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Gwen Ifill fellow. Imam has been a guest lecturer covering social media, verification and misinformation at colleges like the University of Florida and San Francisco State University. In 2018, Imam was inducted into Poynter's Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media. In 2011, Imam was part of CNN's coverage of the Arab Spring, which lead to a Peabody award for the network.
