NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KUZZ-FM

LAS VEGAS -- KUZZ-FM Bakersfield, CA today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

Ten winners were chosen from among 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.

KUZZ-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2007:

"When you take a pro-active stance and step up to the plate, a community can and does benefit. In 2007, KUZZ-FM took the lead, raised the bar, and brought their community along to share in the success of one of the largest 'Great American Clean-Up' days in the nation. The KUZZ community crew of 55 staff and volunteers was the largest single group among the 3,700 volunteers who collected more than 106.5 tons of litter. More than 6,000 local elementary students read over 30,000 books in three months through a reading program sponsored by KUZZ. A new blood donation record for their local blood bank was set, and they also organized and implemented a Christmas giving drive that benefited 55 families. KUZZ was instrumental in helping the American Cancer Society raise almost $2 million and assisted St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in raising $1.4 million. Altogether, KUZZ helped their community raise more than $6.2 million in 2007. Throughout the year, KUZZ dedicated over 9,800 minutes of airtime to community issues and events. What really makes them proud is that the KUZZ staff set new standards, devoting almost 1,600 volunteer hours in service to their community in 2007."

The NAB Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, featured a keynote address by Robert Pittman, MTV co-founder and former Co-COO of AOL Time Warner. During the luncheon, Larry Lujack, legendary Chicago radio personality, was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame and WUSL-FM Philadelphia was given the NAB Crystal Heritage Award for long-term commitment to community service.
