NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KCVM-FM

LAS VEGAS -- KCVM-FM Cedar Falls, IA today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

Ten winners were chosen from among 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.

KCVM-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2007:

"The word 'service' appears on three occasions in the mission statement for the locally owned and operated KCVM-FM. Significant, considering the mission statement is just nine words long. In 2007, KCVM continued its commitment to community service by donating over 21,020 minutes of air-time valued at $758,200 to non-profit groups and organizations. The station's own 501-C3 charity, 'Magical Mix Kids,' took 16 children with chronic and terminal illnesses on an all-expenses-paid trip to Disney World. The organization raised $79,500 to take the 64 family members on the annual dream vacation. Station staff donated over 650 hours to this effort, and an additional 900 hours to many other worthy causes, for a total of 1,550 hours. The staff undertook an effort to provide gifts for 2,400 needy children during the holidays. They opened, decorated, and staffed the 'Holiday of Hope Headquarters' in an empty store front at the mall for 23 days prior to Christmas. The station initiated documentary programs to support education, promote animal welfare and recognize community heroes. Overall, KCVM contributed to campaigns that raised $850,000 for area organizations."

The NAB Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, featured a keynote address by Robert Pittman, MTV co-founder and former Co-COO of AOL Time Warner. During the luncheon, Larry Lujack, legendary Chicago radio personality, was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame and WUSL-FM Philadelphia was given the NAB Crystal Heritage Award for long-term commitment to community service.
