NAB Statement on Senate Introduction of Register of Copyrights Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to today's introduction in the Senate of the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act of 2017, a bill to amend the appointment of future Registers of Copyrights and limit the Register position to a 10-year term, the following statement can be attributed to NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith:

"NAB thanks Chairmen Grassley and Hatch, and Ranking Members Feinstein and Leahy on their bipartisan introduction of legislation to make the Register of Copyrights subject to the Presidential nomination and Senate confirmation process. Following the successful House passage of companion legislation last week, NAB looks forward to working with lawmakers to ensure swift passage of this important bill that will increase the accountability of the U.S. Copyright Office.”
