NAB
CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO WIL-FM
LAS
VEGAS -- WIL-FM St. Louis today was awarded the National Association of
Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards
have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment
to community service.
Ten winners were chosen among 50
finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.
WIL-FM
provided this description of its accomplishments in 2009:
For WIL and its great listenership, 2009 was a year of looking forward,
looking out and
lending a hand. Imposing our will was the motto that provided the fundamental
building
blocks from which the foundation of lending a hand to our community was
built. Whether it was the donation of time, talent or treasures, the WIL
on-air staff, station employees, and their warm, welcoming and generous-to-a-fault
family of listeners always rose to the occasion. 2009 proved to be a challenging
year for St. Louis - instability of our nonprofit partners, closing of
doors for long-time, once-thriving community businesses and the day-to-day
struggles encountered by our listeners and their extended families. Not
only was WIL mindful of the many issues at hand, but it dug in its heels
to develop, implement and execute one of the most comprehensive resumes
of community service in the history of the station. For 2009, we are proud
to report that WIL raised $604,125 for charities, provided 37,327 minutes
of public service air time valued at more than $11 million and we collectively
donated 1,139 man hours to the greater St. Louis community.

The NAB
Show Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, featured a presentation by Phil
Hendrie, nationally syndicated radio host and satirist. During the
luncheon, legendary Texas radio personality Ron
Chapman was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
