NAB
CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KCVM-FM
LAS
VEGAS -- KCVM-FM Cedar Falls, Iowa today was awarded the National Association
of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio
Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round
commitment to community service.
Ten winners were chosen among 50
finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.
KCVM-FM
provided this description of its accomplishments in 2009:
The word "service" is significant for locally owned and operated
KCVM. In fact, it appears on three occasions in their mission statement.
It means more than just serving during a local crisis or time of need.
It is 24/7, 365. In 2009, KCVM continued it's commitment to community
service by donating more than 20,820 minutes of air time valued at $728,100
to nonprofit groups and organizations. The station's own 501(c)(3) charity,
Magical Mix Kids, took their 10th annual trip with 14 children with chronic
and terminal illnesses on an all-expenses-paid trip to Disney World. The
organization raised $65,500 to take the 59 family members on the annual
dream vacation. Station staff donated more than 725 hours to this effort,
and an additional 850 hours to many other worthy causes, for a total of
1,575 hours. The staff provided gifts for 2,400 needy children during
the holidays. They opened, decorated and staffed the Holiday of Hope Headquarters
in an empty storefront at the mall. The station initiated documentary
programs to support education, help during the financial crisis, promote
animal welfare and recognize community heroes. Overall, KCVM contributed
to campaigns that raised $725,000 for area organizations.
